Family Communication

Each family should develop a communication plan to ensure the safety of family members in the event of an emergency.  This will be important if all members of the family are not home at the time of an emergency.

As a part of your plan, put together a contact sheet that has the phone numbers of each family member, fire, police, doctors, neighbors, etc.  Make sure that every member of the family has a hard-copy of the contact sheet and put copies in your cars.

Click this link for a downloadable contact sheet.

Your plan should also include obtaining a battery/solar powered radio.

During an emergency, local phone communication may be difficult due to overloaded circuits.  However, the circuits for out-of-state phone calls may not be as busy.  For this reason, it may be important to use an out-of-state friend or family member as a point of contact.

After You have confirmed the safety of your family, follow the neighborhood communication plan described below.

Neighborhood Communication

In the event of a neighborhood-wide emergency, communication will be essential to getting help to those who need help.

The communication plan for our neighborhood is:

Step 1 – Check and confirm the safety of your family

Step 2 – Check and confirm the safety of your immediate neighbors

Step 3 – Communicate with the command center to report injuries and damage

Step 4 – If your family and neighbors are OK, communicate with the command center to get an assignment to help where needed.  If all communication methods fail, travel to the command center for an assignment.

The command center for our neighborhood is:

Ray and Mavis Glad’s Home — 1661 East 13200 South

To communicate with the command center, use the following communication methods (in priority order):
